H260 Trailer Bunks

I have a 2001 H260 and the factory trailer. The boat is supported on the trailer by the 2 bunks aft and one roller under the bow. When putting the boat back onto the trailer, it is difficult to get it exactly centered up on the single roller under the bow. Misalignment tends to scratch the bow along the side of the roller support posts. It has been suggested to me to replace the bow roller with 2 bunks angled in a "V" shape forward. The benefit would be a large self-centering target when approaching the trailer. It would also seem that two 4' bunks would distribute the weight of the bow over a greater area than that of a single roller. Any thoughts? Thanks Ross

Had a similar problem

I sailed my boat off the trailer the first season to save a little money. The bow roller brackets really tore up the bow. I got a replacement roller axle long enough to put those round end rollers on the outside of the brackets. I had to trim the brackets down just a little so the edges wouldn't stick out. I then took a 6', treated 2"x10", and cut the center out so that it wouldn't interfere with the roller and angled up from the center to the full height of the board. I routed the corners, covered it with heavy carpet, and bolted it to the rear facing side of the trailer cross piece that the roller is mounted on. No more scraping.

Does this work?

Thanks for the help in getting the picture posted. Now I have to make notes so I don't forget.

Bigger picture?

Dick, I don't really understand what you did with the 2 x 10? Can't see it in the picture. Could you maybe get a larger picture or explain in more detail? Thanks. -Tom

Bolt it onto the roller supports.

Also, run a couple of lag bolts up through the trailer cross member. The purpose of the carpeted board are to help center the boat on the roller and to protect the bow from the corners of the roller supports should you not be successful in aligning with the roller.

Gentlemen, let godfather speak

Simply put, the bow roller is there to prevent the bow of the boat from hitting the cross bracing on the trailer. In the past, there was a white maleron or plastic piece on the trailer. In essence, I do like the roller but it is too high and that can be remedied easily by dropping the roller down and it will require drilling new holes in the supports. The picuture I see here would appear to be boards in place and frankly speaking can cause you more trouble than what they are worth. I would suggest removal immediately. One thing I would do to keep the bow from hitting the side of the supports or stalks is to add a long bolt with side small rollers like they are doing on the new Magic Tilt trailers for Hunter. Enough said.

With all repect to the godfather

the board words just fine keeping the bow from drifting into the side of the roller. It is, also, a great deal less costly than purchasing additional rollers and brackets.

If you only knew my experience with these boats. For the record it was my idea for water ballast to Hunter and I had a lot of imput with the designs. In fact, I have outsailed, outsold and out fixed these rascals and alot what is said here is based on experience. Heck, I even introduced these boats for Hunter over the years and even had the first 216 too. However, your opinion is appreciated. I do not get paid for this nor does Hunter ask me to be involved. Further I do not advise who or where I am out of respect for the forum and boat dealers.
