If anyone is interested, I just posted photos of us getting our new 2001 H260. You should be able to find them in the photo forum. If I did it right. Let me know what you think.-Jay
Congratulations and welcome to the bay. I bought my 97 Hunter 29.5 three summers ago from a couple who had it berthed at Bowley's. They threw in the slip for the summer and winter storage there as well. Enjoyed the summer there in slip C-63 (or was it 67?). Anyway, it was a long walk out the pier. Had several friends with boats on Swan Creek in Rock Hall so that's where we are now and really enjoy it. Hope to see you on the bay. Out boat name is Windswept. Enjoy!
We could have got a 15HP four stroke but opted for the 9.9. Many people told me, and it makes sense, that you won't get any more speed out of higher horse powers due to the displacement hull. The hull speed is limiting, not the engine power.
Ok, Jay... Now I'm chumping at the bit. I was told I have to wait till around the 15th. My wife's been working my butt off around the house cause she knows once the boat arrives, unless there's a storm, I'll be on the boat. I hadn't considered removing the Hunter Logo, but I will now.Have fun!
Congratulations from your fellow Hunter 26 owning Denville-ite. You must be excited. You're right about the 10HP outboard. I've got the 15HP Honda on my '97 H26 and I reach hull speed with the throttle at only the "start" position. Fortunately the 10 and 15 are almost identical and are the same weight. I guess having the extra power in some rough seas might be beneficial, but I'm not likely to encounter that on Lake Hopatcong! I'm jealous of you being on the Bay.Ron Mehringers/v Hydro-Therapy
Great pictures Jay! I will be picking up my new H260in CT in two weeks. Did you buy yours in Westport or West Mystic? How was the ride down to MD? I will be towing the boat with a Grand Cherokee V8. I thought my boat commute was bad, Hackettstown to Island Heights. You have me beat by a few miles ! Best of luck to you!
Kevin - How long does it usually take you to get to Island Heights on summer weekends? What time do you usually travel and how about the return trip?We keep our H26 on Lake Hopatcong because it's easy to get to often from here in Denville, NJ. But I'd love to consider some larger sailing waters in the future. How do you like the part of Barnegat Bay you're in? Further south in the LBI area I beleive the water is often too shallow (or so I've heard).Final thought. I now know of four people (Jay, Keving, Bob G. and myself)in northern NJ who own a 26/260. Maybe we could get together sometime and share our experiences.Regards,Ron Mehringers/v Hydro-Therapy
Ron, good idea. I would at least like to get out to the lake to see your 260.Kevin, We got our from Scott at The Boat Locker in Westport,CTSo far the 3hour drive to MD hasn't been bad. We usually have two to three days off in a row (mostly during the week) so two nights on the bay is worth the drive.-Jay
Since I have not taken delivery of my H260 yet, and probably have more to gain from all of your experience,I would be willing to "host" this first meeting. If interested please email me directly kevin.uckert@compaq.com with somes dates you are available. We could meet on your boat, my marina, or a pub convenient to us all. Looking forward to it!
We can all meet on my boat if you would like. I am sure I have enough PFDs for everyone who attends so we can take a sail and maybe stop at one of the establishments on the lake for lunch.Good Luck with your new boat.BobS/V Gravyboat
Jay,Ron, Bob and myself are planning a meeting aboard the Gravy Boat for us Northern NJ sailors. Send me your email address so we can cordinate with you.kevin.uckert@compaq.com
Glad to see you finally made it into the water Jay. We weregoing to sail up to Middle River on Memorial Day weekend butthe rain changed our plans. The month of June is a bust for us Ive been out of town for the first two weeks and leave in the morning for Iowa and will return Jun 24. We might not get to sail until the rendezvous at Solomons July 12. Are you coming down for it? Sould be a blast. Else will be seeing you on the BAY.JimS/V Java
We have only been able to get out on the weekdays. My schedule changes for July and I hope to have off for the Solomans gathering. If not, we will be out other weekends. See you out there.-Jay
