Going to get a H260 with a diesel inboard. How much room does it really take from the aft berth? Is there any fume smell during sleeping in the aft berth. Also, going to get wheel steering, does that take up much space in the aft berth.

Space

Dan, I have a '98 H26 but looked at the I/B H260 before buying. The space difference is mimimal. Maybe about 8 inches aft as wide as the stairs are. As to the wheel steering, as near as I can remember it doesn't intrude into the aft head room at all. The only thing I remember was the wheel was pretty wide in the cockpit and was kind of a pain to manuver around. All in all, this is a great boat. Enjoy, Jim Covey s/v Wampeter

Inboard/wheel steering

Dan I own a 260 with the inboard and wheel steering, and the engine is located under the stairs. It doesn't interfere with the aft berth, and, I have never smelled any diesel odor. Also, the wheel steering does not extend into the aft berth, so there is plenty of room for two adults. Dan

260 wing now called the 270

Other than the engine compartment underneath the companionway, the interior of the Hunter 260 with the inboard diese is the same as the water ballast both in the cockpit and rear berth. There are two items that you can do with this boat too. you can add a shower in the head since you have a bilge area for the grey water to go to aand be bilged out. Secondly, you will be able to drop the table downward to make a berth versus turning it around only in the water ballast version. The only drawback would be trailering the wing keel as it is more difficult to launch and retrieve from the trailer.
