H260 engine cables

Does anyone know the lenght the engine cables are on a H260 with wheel steering and edson contols on the binnacle. I also have a honda 9.9 on the engine mount. I am thinking of using Teleflex xtreme. The teleflex cables I have now seem to bind and I think it is because of the bend from under the binnacle to the stern is too tight of a radius for regular teleflex. Does anyone have any experience with teleflex xtreme.

Another question I have is where do people store the outboard for a dinghy on their H260?

I have a 260 with a 9.9 Honda as well. The motor is 2006. The boat had a Nissan motor when I bought it.

I believe it has the original factory cables. They were quite smouth on the Nissan. I installed the Honda motor myself.

The throttle is fine on the Honda but the shift is very stiff, I think it is the detent on the Honda shift linkage. There is a shifter shaft inside the case, across the front of the motor that rotates, there is tiny arm that presses against this shaft to provide the detents. That is what appears to be causing the hard shift on my motor. I removed one of the springs,(mine had 2) it is a flat piece of metal, and it improved quite a bit, I intend to try and release more of the pressure, perhaps using a shim - a washer might do it. I used it the way it is this summer but I think it is going to lead to premature failure of the cable if the pressure is not reduced. I don't know if this has anything to do with your situation.

I am also looking for a good way to mount a small outboard motor on the back of the boat. I have seen pictures of a bracket behind the helm seat so the motor is hanging out behind the helm, but not enough detail in the shot, it was a boat that was for sale. I include the picture below, maybe someone has seen this boat and can add some details, it has a full dodger/cockpit enclosure as well. If you come up with an elegant solution please post a picture. I am heading south with the boat in January and would like to solve this before I leave.

good luck, Bob

I was also concerned about the amount of pressure on the cable. I will look at those springs. With the engine unhooked there is some tension in the cables but not too much. I was thinking that I would reduce all the tension everywhere I can and put on new better cables and now possibly the spring. Thanks

I was thinking of making a board and attaching it between the tow stantions on the aft starboard side (the stantion behind the helm seat and the stantion on the side of the stern rail seat). That way you could hang the motor on this board when underway and it is out of the cockpit and the weight of my motor is 39lbs so not too heavy.

My Hunter 26.5 has a factory mount. Here is the best pic I have of it.

I'd replaced the stock cables in our 260 with orig eqt but they were just as poor and began to bind within mths. I also called teleflex and they recommended their highest grade cables which are as smooth as ice. I installed those and it's a completely different experience. I'll look through my records to see if I can find the length/model#/mfg. Hunter should know the length. Go for the upgrade without a doubt.

I built a small motor mount for my 2hp dinghy motor that fit onto the upright rudder tube. Mounted there it kept the weight low and could be slid down and serve as a backup outboard for the big boat if my 8hp died for some reason and it was still out of the way as a storage placement. Here's a pic. 4 stainless bolts w/nyloc nuts bolted through a short piece of 5" pt stock. I only bolt it in place on lengthy week long runs. Not sexy but works perfectly.
