H260 Battery Location

Going to start a battery rewiring project. The location of the H260 battery in in the aft birth is the pits. Hard to check the battery. Trying to decide where to relocate it and/or find best location for another battery. Anyone have Wiring diagrams and specs for hooking up second battery with charger? I'm assuming a couple of Troy golf cart batteries would work pretty well but my outboard only charges at 12amps.Any ideas/info?

my solution

I do not have a motor to charge batteries so that might influence my choice. I use gel cell batteries so I do not have to check the water, I can leave them for the winter, and I can mount them sideways if I want. I put one in the usual position and mounted one on its side to the right of the original position. I glassed in a wooden plate to mount it to. I charge using shore power with a charger that will charge two batteries. I mounted the charger in the 'back bedroom' on the wall next to the head. I ran the wires under the berth. There is an opening already under the aft bulkhead. In the archives there are lots of other options for placement.Good luck, sounds like a project.Corky

Forward of Head under seat

I installed two size-27 batteries under the seat just behind the opening in front of the Head bulkhead. I drilled a hole under the sink next to the water line pipe then under the porta-poti platform back to the original battery connections. Used a bolt on a crimp terminal. Used #6 gage so the outboard will start.There was a discussion on this in May in the archives.One advantage to having 100 pounds of batteries here is it counterbalances the lean of the boat caused by the galley and motor on Starboard.Also, for trailering, the sway is reduced by moving some of the aft pendulum weight in front of the wheels.Click on the picture.Nils Anderson
