I have the manual but I don't see where it answers these questions I have.

On the main, what line do you attach to the tack?

Also, anyone with an H260 willing to take a picture of the ends of the boom so I can can see how to properly set it up?

Also, what have y'all done to tidy up the ends of the lines (outhaul, topping lift, etc) near the mast?

Thanks!

Hey SL,
1, the tack needs a shackle at the gooseneck

2, Bob had a system he came up with that had the outhaul and topping lift lines exiting somewhere near the clew end of the boom with cam cleats or something like that. Might be advantageous. I did a single line reef for the main that runs down through the gooseneck end of the boom, down to a block at the mast base and back to a cam cleat.

3, I just tie up my other lines to an organizer on the side of the mast.

I can put a shackle on the tack. But then what? Where does it connect?

As I recall there's a hole at the top of a piece on the goose neck. Mine is showing some wear so it may be that yours has failed or is some other design. The shackle is a rather skinny and tall one that I hadn't seen anywhere else. I'll get a pic this weekend.

Heading out to another raft-up in paradise before the broiler turns on next month.

Aloha, Mike

Sublime,
The bale of the shackle goes through the main tack cringle. The shackle pin goes through a hole in the top of the gooseneck.

As seen in Soling42's pictures above, on the end of the boom looking forward; the right hand line goes to the outhaul, the center to the reefing cringle on the roach, and the left hand line goes to the topping lift.

I found "Line Keepers" that I mounted to the mast, below and on ether side of the boom. These are inexpensive items that keep things neat.

Here's the one I purchased as a spare: Ronstan RF617 Screw Pin D Shackle 1/4in.

The pin diameter seems larger than what I recall, but unfortunately I am not near the boat to verify. Ronstan makes them in different pin diameters.

Here's a picture of a typical one. The one on the right looks like the original.

I often overestimate but I'd bet a 1/4" pin is too big if I recall right. A quick call to Hunter might clear it all up.

Hey Bob, Summer season fast approaching for you. Spent many seasons sailing in the Columbia river. Beautiful area you're in. Great avatar too. We raised yellow lab guide dog pups for years. fantastic dogs.

Thanks Mike. She's our third yellow lab. Unfortunately, she doesn't like sailing! We copied your pedestal/GPS set-up and love it. During the fall we listen to college football games on the 478's XM Radio while under sail. Have a productive and short "winter" down there!

The centre line (known as the outhall) attaches to the clew. The second one, say on the port side is the topping lift and the other, on the starboard side, the reef. Doesn't matter which side they are on..
I have a bag made up with a draw string that hangs on the goosneck so my excess goes in there. No need to have a shackle at the clew. Simply run the outhall thru and tie a figure eight. Of course you need a shackle at the tack.
