I was in the process of converting my tiller from the stock aluminum tube to a nice wooden one received from the Chandlery, when I noticed the stock tiller is 61" and the wooden one is 54" (spec'ed as 55"). My existing "Tiller Tamer" and tiller extension are both mounted in the last 7" of the tiller. This seems a significant difference to me, has anyone out there made the change, and how do they like it? Does the resulting tiller force exerted seem higher?

I modified the tiller on my h-19 by cutting about 12" off. It just took up too much room in the cockpit. I did this before last season and I love the new mod. It take a little more effort to steer but is not too bad.
