H26 Storage Access Idea

I am being urged by my first mate to improve accessability to the under seat storage in the cabin of our 26. Getting access through the tops is occasionally a chore, when the seats have duffels, kids, PFDs, and other 'stuff' on top. I was considering cutting openings in the fronts, to allow access that way. I envision using a Roto-zip to cut to opening, using the cutout as the door, and then hinging this panel and putting in a recessed latch. So, I guess the question I have is has anyone else done anything similar? Done anything better? Have any tips, thoughts, guidance, etc. If you've tackled a similar project, how about posting to the photo-forum. When I do tackle this, I'll try and get some before, during, and after pics. T J

TJ, I'd have a concern with uncontroled cracking.

If you were to do this I think you would need to glass in some type of reinforcement next to your doors. Unfinished edges split. On our 95 H26 I installed flat bottoms (made from 1/4" plywood)below all the seats and under the galley cabinet and under the head cabinet. I also made full width shelving in both cabinets. Just having flat storage made for greatly increased order. We also have a set order for storage with the often needed stuff where it could be easly reached. I do plan on opening the upper entry to the forward bow area to a size around 1 1/2 foot by 2 1/2 foot. I'll glass in a wooden frame below the surface and retain the drop in door style.
