In looking closely at the rigging diagram in my owners manual ('97 h26), I noticed that the sidestays cross each other rather than running parallel. That is, the upper stay comes straight down and attaches to the forward u-bolt and the lower crosses behind the upper to attach at the aft u-bolt. When I got the boat (and since I've owned it - 2yrs), I'm sure the rigging has been run upper to aft bolt; lower to foward with the two not crossing. Questions: 1. Can someone verify the "crossover" arrangement is correct? I'll be stepping the mast soon and want to get it right. Other than the diagram, the manual doesn't say. 2. Am I the only dolt in the world not to realize this sooner? Thanks

Uppers forward...

...is the way my '95 H26 is rigged (and how the drawing in the manual shows it.) It may not matter much, since the U-bolts are so closely spaced. This doesn't qualify you for doltdom; bend a spreader stepping the mast, or allow the mast to freefall because you forgot to engage the ropeclutch while lowering, then we'll talk.

Dolt award

I win, second time I had my 99 Hunter 260 out, I ran it into a bridge. The manual says bridge clearence 40 feet, bridge clearence said 50 ft, I thought great..... well sombody was not correct, almost $5,500 dammage and I mean DAMmage, so I win the Dolt award

Hmmmm?

Just raised the mast on my 97 H26 this past Saturday. The lower stays were forward and the uppers aft. That's the way my boat's been for the last two seasons I've owned it. That arrangement seems to make sense to me since the B&R rig has aft swept spreaders. Doubt it matters much considering how close the U-bolts are. Ron Mehringer s/v Hydro-Therapy

Who was wrong?

John, was the bridge marked wrong or is the mast height >40 feet??

Verified

I talked to Hunter and they verified that the "crossover" arrangement is correct. I stepped the mast today and can report that I'm able to get considerably more tension on the lower shroud with this arrangement. Greg at Hunter did say it was important to have it right.

Al Boston-bridge question

The bridge was marked as 50 ft clearence but US Corps of Engineers at full pond the lake I was on was at full pond, when I get my boat back been 2 months at the dealer, I will measure the mast and the add the mast step base to water line to figure out the real bridge clearence
