On my 1995 H26 (new to me) should there be a specific dimple or notch to place the support rods that hold up the pop up companionway cover?

Mine does not have any placement indication. I just pull them as far aft as the track will allow.

Dave... I presume that you mean "place them forward as far as they will go"? Would they be vertical at that point?

One of the reasons that I ask is that I was attempting to fit the pop-top canvas for the first time. It seems that the PO barely used it, if at all judging from the condition of it. It was made by "AmeriSeam" which I presume was the supplier to Hunter at the time. I can get most of the snaps on but only if I drop the pop-top somewhat, to the point I feel nervous that it will drop down since the struts do not have a retention notch. The canvas seems to be too tight. I was wondering if I should soak the canvas to cause it to stretch a bit.

Another question, I presume that the bow that holds the canvas over the companionway/hatch should be installed such that it is swept back rather than forward. (Doesn't fit at all well when installed to sweep forward).

Fred,
If the H26 pop-up hatch works like the H260, the hinges are forward and the lifting end, with support rods, are aft. I slide the rods all the way aft (out from under the hatch) until they contact the upper hatch guides. This places them at a 45' angle.

Yes, the support bar that feeds into the sleeve on the aft end of the canvas does angle aft as well, when mounted on the cabin.

Fred;

send me your email address via this forum to me and I will give you a call. I introduced the 26, got Ameriseam to make the companionway canvas for Hunter and so forth.

I've never been aboard a 26 but my 23.5 has a similar snap hood system. I snap all the snaps on before raising the hinged hatch cover. There is enough play in the struts so that after the hinged cover is partly lifted, the strut ends can be slightly rotated inboard into the hatch opening, that is, out of the channel on the hatch coaming. The hatch cover is then lifted up as far as you can and the strut ends are returned into the channels and placed against the stops at the after end of the coaming channels. If you do it this way you'll find you're minimizing the fight to get the all the snaps connected because the canvas cover is not tensioned until everything else is in place. Also your canvas cover is nice and taut and you've got standing head room.

A dab of lubricant on each on the snaps makes their operation, well...a snap.

EZPZ.

Kind regards

Hugh

Does any one know where one may be able to buy this pop top cover for a 2008 H25? I tried a few years ago from this site but was told they did not have the measurements for the H25.

This is good question for Phil Herring.

Phil;

Does your source whom I know have the pattern for a pop top cover now for the newer 25? If so, can you help these fellows.
