Hunter 26 Boat has been sold - Currently boatless :(
For anyone who might be thinking of removing their compression post to change centerboard line or re-bed all leaky areas or (as in my case)both, here's what that looks like. You can view the pictures in the Photo Forum for the model 26. Incidentally, do any of you H26 owners (must be 26 not 260)know what is under the bottom compression plate base? I know that the large screw seen in my pics holds the centerboard in, but how many other parts are under there? I'm assuming that once the large screw and other smaller ones are removed, that plate should be able to be pried off. Has anyone done this? I'd like to remove it to get a fresh bed of sealant between it and the hull portion. (FYI... I will have the boat lifted and cradled as I plan to change the CB line). Thanks! Enjoy! Pat

So that is what it looks like.

Now I know what to do if I want to remove my table, but I'm not sure that is going to accomplish your objective of changing the line. As I recall from changing mine last year, you will not be able to change the center board end without dropping the board from the trunk. It is easier to leave the compression post in and use a messanger line to pull your new line through from top to bottom. The board is a load. You will need someone to loosen the large bolt and one or two strong persons to lower the board.

Centerboard line

Dick, The reason I removed the post is because I needed to remove the table which I'll be refinishing. Also, I want to remove the bottom plate that the post sits on so I can reseal it as I have had leaks there in the past. Also, I've had issues with leaks from the mast step plate area. So, this is a good opportunity to clean and reseal everything. I'm still waiting for someone to confirm the exact hardware content under the bottom compression plate so I'll know what to expect when I have the boat lifted and cradled to work on centerboard line. Thanks! Pat

More pictures, please.

I hope you will post pictures as you dig into the project further. Your last ones were great. I'd love to have a shallower table base that would permit the table to be lowered to the level of the seats. That would make it worthwhile for me to remove my compression post to make the switch.

Table mods

Dick, you may want to check photo archives. It seems some owners have done that project before. I recall seeing something about it, but I can't remember where. Either way, it doesn't sound like too complicated a project. I'll be posting more pics of my centerboard service once I do that. Fair winds! Pat

How can we change the CB line?

Hello Pat, We have bought a 97 H26 last year, and now we need to renew the CB line, because it is very old.Can you please help and guide us on changing it? Did you succeeded on that? If yes, could you please give me a step by step information? (What exactly is the compression post? Is it the part under the table in the cabin? Sorry, bec. of my English...) As you have mentioned in one of your photos, we have the same leaking problem from that place. Clean salty water is filling the place betweeen the stairs and the galley. Do you have any idea on how we can stop that water? thanks in advance & best wishes from Istanbul...
