I have had a bothersome water leak on the cabin top of my h26 that results in water leaking through the interior light over the salon table. I've sealed up all screw holes over this area and there is still a leak when I hose down the area. (It is not rainy season here, so I have to test it with water from the dock hose.) Have any other 26 owners had this probalem? David King, "Molly"

Chased a similar leak for years....
and finally solved it by refreshing the caulk between the compression post and the deck where the keel uphaul goes through. At that point, their is a U shaped cutout in the compression post for the line to pass to the interior of the post. I used 3M 4200 to re-seal the gap between the edges of the U in the post, and the deck fiberglass. Worked like a charm.

Is this problem also on a 23.5??
I've had a quite a bit of water lately, about a gallon a week, but added a de-humidifyer which solved the problem..bone dry last week. I'm wondering if some of the water is leaking in, in addition to the normal humidity. Is the mast area a problem on the H23.5 also?? Thanks, Jack

Potential leaks in a 23.5
Jack, I have a 1994 23.5 and I found a couple of areas that are prone to leak. All so far are on the stern of the boat. The biggest source of rain water for me was where the cap covers the ends of the rub rails on the stern. Remove the cap, pull the rub rail out of the mounting rail and unscrew the mounting rail. You will see where the silicone has become disbonded and all kinds of dirt is in there. Clean it up well and squirt some 5200 into the screw holes and then screw everything back together. Problem solved. Also rebed the stern light housing. This should help a good bit. Eventually you will want to re-bed all your deck fittings. I clean the area really well using de-bond and then squirt 5200 into the holes and apply a bead under the base of the deck fitting and screw everything back down. Now that they make De-bond, I am not afarid to use 5200 for certain applications like deck fittings. Good luck. Cheers, Jonathan

That makes all the sense now. I was suspecting the rub rail to have something to do with it, but couldn't figure how. Never even thought of the rear light. I think I can make it through sailing season (ends in June), then do the sealing over the summer. I also need to replace the forward hatch gasket, but I don't think thats leaking too much.
