We lost the rudder to our '78 H25 in a blow in the Long Island Sound. Our boat broke free of its mooring and the rudder post sheared off at the hull when the boat grounded. A search for the the rudder was unsuccessful and now we're stuck with a boat we can't steer. Some time back I found that the rudder post cap was not obtainable through Hunter. I can only imagine what they'll say this time. I've sent an inquiry to Hunter, but I'm asking the folks who really know what kind of hot water I'm in to help me out. What would you folks do?

I made a new rudder

I bought a 74 model last year in very poor condition. Prior owner had run aground and lost rudder. Their homemade rudder was wrong size and shape. I made my rudder out of epoxy and plywood. Rudder post is 2" od stainless tubing with a flat plate welded to it around which plywood and epoxy were bonded. This system worked out very well for me. You will need to locate another 25 in your area to make templates. If you can't find one let me know and I will template mine for you. Good luck!
