Has any H25.5 owners installed a dodger on their boat? I am considering one but due to the pop top, I am unsure how it would look or work. If anyone had photos of their H25.5 dodger I would love to see it. Mark Sanford s/v Phoenix H25.5

Building one for my H23

I'm not done yet but the project is far enough along for you to get the general idea (see attached photo). I mounted four nylon brackets for the dodger frame at the outboard corners of the main hatch. The front brackets are conventional but the rear ones are angled to compensate for the slope of the cabin top. All the mounting holes are drilled oversize and filled with eopxy to seal the wood core. Pilot holes for the self-tapping mounting screws were drilled later when the epoxy cured. The frame is made with 3/4" tubing. There are three pieces, a bow over the companionway and two longitudinal tubes from the upper corners of the bow to the front corners of the fiberglass hatch. That way the pop-top can be opened under the dodger while at anchor. The cover will be one piece of heavy, clear vinyl with no stitching except along the edges for the overturn. I didn't consider Sunbrella because I only plan to use the dodger if I need to keep the hatch when it rains, so sun should not be a concern. Vinyl also allows good all-round visibility. I hope this helps. Peter H23 "Raven"

your mast stepping system

Peter I saw the photo in your HOW post Building one for my H23 and I'm curious about your mast stepping system. It looks like the same one I made from plans off this forum. What do you use to attach the a-frame to the lifeline stanchion? I’ ve got the same model and the conduit holders are too big. Thanks for your help. Bob Noble sv Miss Lisa

Check stanchion diameter - for Bob

I used the 1-inch conduit holders because the stanchions are 7/8-inch diameter. If you have smaller stanchions you can either use smaller holders or...use what you already have. The rig works even if the holders aren't tight. If they do get distorted during use, just bend them back by hand or replace as needed. I think they come ten to a pack so you should have lots of spares. Peter H23 "Raven"

Dodger

My 25.5 has a dodger. It looks fine on the boat but it will definitely be a custom job if you want the pop-top to remain usable. Mine has zippers on the center section to allow the top to be raised with the dodger up. I will try to find a picture of my boat with the dodger on. I currently don't have it installed because the plastic windows are all in bad shape. Dan

...just a dodger??

are you only interested in a dodger, or are you installing a bimini as well?

Low Boom

My boat does not have a bimini. The boom is fairly low and would not allow a comfortable amount of headroom. I had considered raising the boom and modifying the sail but I am now selling the boat so that will not get done.

Maybe bimini also

I have considered a bimini also. However, due to the low height of the boom, I may make it above the boom for use when moored. A dodger may be of more value as being in eastern Canada we get cooler weather.

Bimini comments

I installed a bimini on my 25.5. Its good & bad. Definately low headroom, and reduced visibility while sailing, can't see top of mast easily, etc. But it is nice when it rains, or when its really hot. I probably get more use out of it when docked.
