If any of you noticed some of my posts last year, some of them delt with the speed of the 240. I was unhappy with the apparent speed of the boat.Towards the end of the season and now again this season which has been blessed/plagued with high wind, I found myself passing other boats including the 25' Coranado that I could quite catch. "Yippie Ty Yea __ __"It seems the H240 with reduced sail area and increased balast (& increased hull speed) compaired to the 23.5 is a little slow with wind speeds below 7mph. However, when we get wind speeds of 10 to 17 we are back in the saddle again cowboys. Not only do we pass the offending Coranado, but larger boats in the 27 to 30 & 35 ft catagories. I love the 240 and dont realy race but I watch when another boat is on the same course and mentally compair speeds and had begun to rue the day I bought the new H240 instead of a used larger boat. (One of the best features of the 240 is the cockpit where I spend ALL my time is larger & more comfortable than the larger boats.)Now I can relax knowing the boat can show her stuff without fear of embarrassment. (OK so I'm a little competative in my old age) (& no, I dont race from stop light to stop light anymore)Also, the 240 is great for solo sailing with an auto tiller, self furling jib and the way all the lines & controls are routed back to the cockpit. No more dancing on the bow raising the jib with the boat potentially out of control and possibly throwing me off the bow.
