What is the best way to sail a h240 downwind to the leeward mark ? This model has the B&R rig, with spreaders swept back 30 degrees. You cannot let the boom out much more than about 45 degrees, or the sail and full battens at the top form an 'S' wraped around the shrouds. I have done this before, in 15-20 knots, and the boat moves, but it bothers me to see the sail/battens wrapped around the shrouds. Sailing anything less than 45 degrees from dead downwind, I must wing out the jib, or the jib is useless. In winds less than 10~12 knots, i will broad reach and jibe to the leeward mark, with the board up. What do I do with this boat when the wind goes above 14 knots ? I have read your article 'downwind sailing tactics', but this does not apply to the B&R rig, due to the 30 degree swept back spreaders.

Downwind Sailing

Have the same issue with my H260 and finally just got used to the fact that you can't move the main out as far. I just stop where the sail starts to rub against the spreader and the boat seems to sail well. I always rig a preventer to the aft bale on the boom when going downwind for anything other than a short distance. Not sure it makes much difference in speed.
