H23 Wing Keel --- Lead or Iron?

I have an 1987 H23 with the wing keel. I started prepping it for the season this past weekend and chipped off alot of loose paint from the keel. Underneath, I'm seeing reddish-brown oxidized metal. Are all the H23 Wing Keels made of lead or are somefrom plain old iron. (I didn't think lead rusted to this color.) Sounds like I need to go back through all the older threads dealing with "sanding the keel down to bare metal", etc.

Basically the same procedure.

Joel: The process for preping the keel is basically the same weather it is Cast Iron or Lead. I just posted a link from the interlux site regarding this exact issue. You need to take it down to bright metal and then prime it immediately after completely clean the old metal.

All h23 keels are made of cast iron. See the archives for details on how to prep, barrier coat and bottom paint to minimize rusting problems.
