I am about to to remove the old and bent transom pintles and I am looking for a replacement. Elsewhere in this site i have found reference to Ronstan #RF1331 Heavy-Duty 3/8" Transom Pintle as the substitute. However Rig-Rite has the RF1331X and from their page it says that they are "on 4 3/8" centers". I am not sure how the measurement is taken. If it is from the center of the holes, than it is larger than the one I am trying to replace. My holes to secure the part to the transom are about 3 1/4 apart and there is only one base where the pintle is welded and not a channel. I wonder what the difference between the RF1331X and RF1331 might be. I have not found a picture or specs of the RF1331 on Rostan page and it somewhere it mentions that they are discontinued.

Rig-Rite has offered tech support and I will contact them with the specs of the part i want to replace. In the meanwhile maybe someone around here may already know the answer or know where to source the correct drop in replacement, if it exists at all.

What to do? Get the RF1331X and close and redo the holes, or what?

I _think_ we found a small cache of remaining RF1331 pintles. I'll know more later today and will post here.

RF 1331 X mount.

I got the RF1331 X replacement for the RF1331. The two parts are a little different and there is some adaptation to do. Is there anyone out there who made the same swap and is willing to share insights?

Yesterday i drove by a boat broker and sure enough the was a Hunter 23 for sale - the swing boar flavor. It had the RF 1331X - not the RF 1331.I took a picture of the pintle mount and it has a teak support. Without support the 1331 X pintle would be one inch closer to the transom.

I wonder if this the stock way or an after market replacement? I had the chance to look also in the lazarette and it looked like the boat has a solid stock transom...

The 1331 also allows a great rotation angle than the 1331 X. It is unlikely to be a problem under most circumstances, but I wonder if it does matter when maneuvering in close quarters.

Also, any alternative material for the support? I thought i could use King starboard, but is does not take gluing/epoxy well, or I could make two solid pieces of epoxy fiberglass with a teak core.

Thanks,
Steven
