I purchased my Hunter used and I am sorry to say that the previous owner lost the OEM companionway hatch. It was replaced with a piece of plywood that was cut to fit the hole. I want to put in a little more effort and make something a little more original but every picture I see shows little detail here. Anyone who could take some measurements or pictures, anything would help! Thickness, lenth, two-piece(?) joint, etc. PLEASE HELP! Thanks. Will settle for other models too.

A starting point...

If the plywood piece you currently have fits well you should be able to use that as a set of base measurements. My 34 has five pieces with a thickness just less then the width of the channels on either side of the companionway. Other then the very top and bottom edges all joining edges are angled toward the cockpit. This, I assume is to facilitate fit as well as to manage water. Hope this helps. Sorry I don't have more specific measurements.

23 boards

My Boards on my 23 (2) are made of smoked lexan. The top one is 2 pieces, so that it slides OVER the outboard one.

I'll measure mine

I can take measurements on my original H23 boards tomorrow. So if you don't get anything sooner, I'll get them for you.

Thank you all so much, this has been really helpful. The only thing I am still unsure of is what the typical thickness is. The piece of plywood in place right now is 1/4" and this seems really thin. If someone could measure this, I would really appreciate it! Thanks again.

Starboard works!

I just did a new hatch board this spring. I used 1/2" starboard, (3) pieces about 8" wide, and routed the edges to allow some overlap. The lower edge, next to the traveler track has a slight bevel to mate to the lip on the bottom and a bevel at the top to mate with the slider. The starboard is great, easy to clean, no maintenance. This took me about 3 hours.
