Owners manual H23.5 doesn't show where the boom vang connects to mast base and boom location..Can someone share the exact location..?
I think it may hook on the pin of mast step plate?

Another novice ;) question....are the two SS hooks found, port and starboard, near the mast gooseneck boom used for reefing?

I also read where the owners manual stated that you may want to drop the jib before reefing...has anyone tried this?..... if so how did it work?

as usual txs in advnce....mark<><

I have a 1998 H240 but I assume the setup is the same. First let me say that you are correct on all points. The boom vang on my boat connect to the pivot pin at the base of the mast on the aft side and there is an eye riveted to the boom i would say between two and three feet aft of the mast for the other end.

The Stainless steel hooks that you mentioned are for reefing. You should have a stainless steel grommet in your mainsail fairly inline with your reefing lines and the reefing outhaul. When reefing, just slip the grommet over on of the hooks to hold the forward end of the mainsail down.

I have a roller furling jib on my boat but I have noticed that you have much more balanced helm if you will reef the jib first and the main second.

Hope this info helps
