hi hunter sailors, lately i've been trying to figure out an effective way to improve ventilation on our hunter 23.5. i really don't expect it to cool the cabin but i've noticed when i open up the boat during the summer to work the interior is pretty hot. i would like to add some passive vents that are weatherproof and unobtrusive. one idea is to put a vent in the door of the forward hatch. vetus makes a low-profile vent called the UFO. i'd like to be sure the hatch can be fully opened once the vent has been installed without banging into something (deck or window). i have also thought about putting some type of inexpensive ports (maybe even a couple of clear beckson deck plates) into the cockpit somewhere for ventilation (and some light too). i'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who has added ventilation of this type to a 23.5, 240 or similar, and whether you are happy with the results. thanks to all, ed (hoy hoy #5)

Wind scoop

Ed My 23.5 has plenty of ventilation with an adjustable braket to hold up the front hatch and a wind scoop. If it is raining we set a boom tent over the companionway hatch and a 4 by 4 foot tarp is tied down over the slightly open front hatch and we still have good breezes. During storms at night we close it up at anchor except for the top hatch board with the boom tent over it. This is when electric fans are a real advantage.

Used to own a 23.5 and now own a 26. One of the biggest things that helped my boat was a NICRO Day/Night Solar Vent. I installed mine in the hatch above the V-berth. It constantly exhausts air out of the cabin. I used to have problems with double stick velcro failing that holds up a picture in the cabin. The problem went away after putting the vent on. A windscoop works great, but only if the wind is coming from the right direction.
