hauled my boat 1,000 miles when I bought it 2 yrs ago. have since kept it at marina across street and not used trailer but to yank it out in fall , problem is the docks although quick and easy to get out and sail have a nasty horrible bug, spider, bird problem. I could clean this boat once every two days due to the above mentioned, how many of you trailer you boat all the time ? rough figure on setting your mast and ready for the water timeframe? one two persons when raising lowering mast ? like the idea of having boat home to keep clean and shiny just weighing the pros /cons here any input??? " I mean nasty huge BUBBLEBACK Spiders coupled with those lil tiny flying bugs that come morning looks like you have just shaken pepper all over your white boat, cant spray e'm off it will still smear there lil corpes on your boat forcing you to grab the brush and soft scrub with bleach.

I have gone on late night spider hunts when it gets bad. I spotlight them at night then do my dirty deed. I generally have to do it several time before it makes any difference.

I have an H22 w/ centerboard. It is kept at the marina during season, rigged and on a trailer. We bring her home in winter so I can tinker. My 13 year-old son and I can launch or retrieve her in less time than my neighbors in slips can dock and adjust their lines. There were no available slips when I first found this marina and I thought this would be a hassle dealing with the trailer. But now in the second season I really prefer it.

It would be a nice compromise between cost/convenience to leave her rigged on the trailer. Doesn't help the spider problem though...

It takes 30+ minutes to rig our 23.5 at the start of the season. Maybe we'd be a little faster if we practiced more. We run lazy jacks & a few other extra lines, so that slows us down some.

We have May flies thick as anything you have ever seen. They do wash off and once hit with water they cannot fly so they wash off with just the hose. We have lots of spiders and webs. I have a small broom onboard just to get the webs off. I hate the webs worse than the spiders. Several people on my dock have been using a spider spray they got at West Marine. They say it works but I have not tried it. I have to wash my boat before every sail and thats 3-5 times a week. I have these small black specs that some people call spider poop and some say it is diesel truck exhaust from the nearby I30. It smears like tar, thick and black. Roll-off with bleach takes it right off. With our highs at 93deg. the spiders are not as bad as 103deg. but the May flies are worse. The birds are mostly grackels. Not much you can do with them. Some people put rubber owls and snakes on the hatch or mast but they just land right beside them. They seem to bother the dirty boats the most. One more reason to wash mine.
