H22 Centerboard rope or cable replacement?

Among things that I need to replace on my first sailboat (H22) is the rigging for my centerboard. I purchased an H22 manual from Hunter which shows a diagram of the centerboard rigging and refers to the rigging as a "rope". I've searched the archives here and it seems that every response to the centerboard, said it is a steel cable. Has anyone here replaced either the rope or the cable? Should I use cable or rope? If so can you share with me how it is done. Is the centerboard only supported by a rope or cable and if so will it fall through the centerboard trunk if not supported by the rope or cable? If not does it have some kind of stop to prevent it from falling through? If anyone here has replaced the rope or cable I would very much appreciate your input. Also if anyone needs an H22 manual I can email it to you if you post your email. Thanks, Pete

Rope

Pete, My diagram says the original material is rope. However, cable if the correct diameter may last longer. I have a diagram of how it goes through the blocks, sheave to the pad eye. No personal experience as I have a fixed keel.

I also have the diagram but...

Ron, I have the diagram of how the rope is rigged but I don't know how to attach it to the keel. Seems like the keel needs to come out and that's what I need to know.
