I am well in to the construction of a trailer, I am copying one that an h22 was on in a marina. However I am not sure how right the position of the boat on the trailer was for trailering ease, it looked good but was it correct. I have two questions: First my trailer is 20' 5" from the rear to the hitch ball how far from the rear should the center of the axle be placed? Second what part of the boat is immediatly above the axle? This will help in placing the boat when the marina's sling lowers it on to the trailer. The boat is new for me so I am trying to be prepared, any ideas on these two questions or perhaps a better way if some one has a picture of an h22 on a trailer and it is clear and close enough that would help. Or a better idea...thanks for responding, this is a great site I have learned a lot already from the many comments and questions exchanged each day.

part of the answer

position the boat on the trailer where between 8 and 10% of the total weight is toung weight, that is weight placed on the ball of the towing vehicle.

john is right on

John is correct that the first item is to place the boat on the trailer with 10% of the weight on the tongue. This will be accomplished by moving the bow support stand and/or the axle. Then you can sadjust your bunk boards accordingly. Make sure you have a good keel tray as puny ones equal trouble. If you are converting a power boat trailer that is only painted, may I suggest strongly to look for rust and repair. You may have to beef up the side braces and even add for the keel tray. I have found that often converting trailers without knowledge can ultimately lead to trouble if not done correctly. Crazy Dave Condon

H22 trailer

About a year ago I needed a trailer bad but could not find one so I converted an old powerboat trailer by adding taller curved bunks. At the repair yard they had to shift the boat a little fore and aft for me to find the correct tongue weight. If you E-mail me at dav8or@usa.com I can send you a picture taken from the side that shows where I had the axle in relation to the boat. I hope this helps.
