Just thought I would drop a line on the topic.
Picked up a 216 that had been a little neglected. The Carbon Spar clear coat was flaking away. Ended up sanding the spar down. Then applied some Materhorne White Awlgrip to it. About 5 coats did the trick. Super shiny finish now, but no high tech carbon fiber look. Will probably improve durability of the spar long term because of less heat/UV. Awlgrip is nasty stuff and takes a little trial and error, but turns out nice with some patience. Little pricey, but worth it for a finish that should last 10 to 20 years according to others.
