Our ceneterboard cable jumped off the pully that leads to the hydrolic jack. We have heard this is a problem with other H216s--we would love ideas on how to correct this (and what may have caused it). Thanks.

re: H216 centerboard cable jumps

What year is your 216? Our 2004 216 original keel assembly would jump off the track if the keel was pushed forward and the cable was allowed to bunch up either through hitting bottom or rough water. We have not had the problem since however with our retrofitted repair after the cable pulled through the lead. A few cranks to tighten up the cable my help...

I was worried about this with my 2008 - the keel was rocking in its mount (pretty dramatic!) going upwind in rough water. I raised the keel by about 5 pumps on the lift ... problem solved!

It is a 2008--how do you get the cable back on the pully once it is off? There is a metal cover above the pulley--does it need to be taken off first? Also, the metal pulley is a bit freyed-could that be another problem? We are about ready to sell it!

Not the metal pulley--the metal cable! Can Hunter help with that?

re: H216 centerboard cable jumps

My pulley is accessible - there is structural steel around it which cramps access and slits fingers open. Yours may be a different design that I would only be able to tell from a photo.

To fix it at the dock: I was able to take the hydraulic out of assembly position which slackened the cable and I was able to refeed it and reseat the hydraulic. Don't drop any washers. The cable doesn't bear load when the board is down - or shoudln't bear much. You may be able to avoid messing with the assembly by extending the hydraulic arm further out if there is any more play in it and reseat the cable on the pulley.

You could also use the trailer to forcibly push the board up to slacken the cable and refeed (if you use the trailer).

Frayed cable == bad news. No reason a 2008 should have any cable frays - my original is completely smooth.

Call Hunter and speak to Kyle Boyett - they will work with you to make you happy.

Re: H216 centerboard cable jumps

Thank you for the information and Kyle Boyett's name! Since we live in Florida, we are going to head up to Hunter's manufacturing plant on Monday, see how their boats are made and talk to them also. Hopefully they will help us also.. It makes me feel better that others have had trouble--this was a used boat, so maybe these problems were pre-existing. Thanks again.
