Does anyone have a Hunter 460, Hunter 466 or Hunter 46 with an inner forestay? Is an inner forestay worth having on this boat?

I have a 49 with a staysail.

On my 49 I ordered the furling, self-tacking staysail. The boat is still being commissioned, so I have not yet had a chance to try it, but my thoughts were that the staysail would give me some additional sail configuration options.

...is a 460 and he has one. I have one on my 40.5 via prior owner. I have not actually used the staysail, but I sometimes rig it on longer voyages. If you are planning some serious offshore work, It would be worth considering. Probably unnecessary otherwise for most coastal cruising areas. RD

Inner Forestay on a furlex furler

I put an inner forestay on a furlex fuller on my 460 about a year ago. We are prepairing to go on an extended offshore voyage starting in November. We have used it many times and are glad to have it. Pros 1. Good balance in winds over 25knots with reefed main 2. Often can add 1/2 to 3/4 knot when used with headsail 3. can keep roll headsail, bring out forestay sail and put off reefing sometimes 4. knowing it is there if you need it when weather builds cons 1. have to be more careful when tacking 2. harder to heave too. Have to practice (only if on furler) 3. expense The furler makes is more expensive and tacking and heaving too more difficult but there is no sail to store and we definetly use it more as it is ready to go.

On a Hunter 45?

Has any one installed an inner forstay on a Hunter 45 Center Cockpit with the fractional rig?

45s...lots of em

Been discussed here in the archives a good deal. Also, I think Hunter sells a kit for adding the innerstay on the 45/450cc's

Inner Stay

I have an H460, Misjudged II, we just returned from a 2500 mile cruise to the Sea of Cortez and arriving back in Newport Beach last thurs. I have an inner stay with a hanked on 100% jib. On the BASH up the coast of Baja, I could have used it several times but the conditions were so bad and so much green water over the boat, it just wasn't safe to go forward. I will be converting to a roller furler before heading south again. The inner staysail is well worth the money but ease of operation is essential in extreme conditions. When your bow is buried back to the mast, its no fun crawling forward to ready your jib. When the innerstay is in place, tacking is difficult but off shore sailing shouldn't be affected too much. You can still hove to with the inner staysail insteal of your head sail. Each boat balances differently, and on the H460 found out that I could hove to with a double reefed main sheeted tight and the auto pilot set 30% off the wind with no headsail . We rode out a gale in 15 foot breaking seas two weeks ago and she had such a sweet ride, I went below for a much needed sleep. She turned out to be one tough lady and saved my ass more than once.
