I'm in the process of completing specs for a new H 410. I'm curious if anyone's ordered the optional inner forestay, and what consequent performance advantage they've achieved, with or without furling (I'm doing a lot of single handed sailing). Thanks, Bob

H410 inner forestay

Bob, I ordered the inner forestay package from Hunter. It was very easy to install by myself. I did secure the adjustable stay on the mast rather than on the deck as it seemed it would be too much in the way on the deck. I admit that I seldom use my hank-on staysail and really have it for Gulf of Mexico crossings, etc. and heavy weather. It seems to me that a staysail on a furler would not be used all that often and would make tacking the headsail a pain. I use the same genoa car as for the headsail, since I will use only one at a time. Trying to make a full-time cutter rig would require placing a second track and car on the coachroof. So, I thought of my investment as being for heavy weather sailing and for the safety of having a second forestay for heavy weather and really don't use it often. By the way, although the sheeting angle is not perfect for the staysail using the headsail track, it's not bad with the car placed fairly far forward. Hope this helps. Chris Webb s/v Grand Cru II
