I have a 1994 H 40.5 which I bought in 1998 as a fresh water boat with less than 3K nautical miles and 500 hrs. on the engine. It is a beautiful boat and the accommodations are wonderful. The joinery below is exceptional for a production boat and the rigging and deck hardware is very good. The below decks design and use of space is marvellous with the air and light provided by a multitude of hatches and ports. The engine (mine's a 55 HP Yanmar) is perfectly installed with little vibration and all systems (water, AC, electrical) work well. I am not overly impressed with the cable installation which is not labelled and difficult to identify. I have, also, spent over 10K responding to hull blistering and deck creaking. Their fiberglass work is left wanting. They did, however, assist financially when asked. The boat sails very well off the wind and fairly well to windward but has a great deal of trouble gathering up on the new tack. The bilge is very deep and requires consideration but the design eliminates the usual crack at the sump/ballast seam though mine has just developed a split at the false fairing aft of the bilge as well as several gel cracks on deck. This is of minimal concern. Overall I am still in love with a boat which is a more than suitable replacement for the 35.5 I had. If you're prepared to acknowledge some fiberglass anomalies, buy it. Good luck. Larry Baswick
