Anyone get this to work in a 35.5, the tank location is much more than 6 ft away and there is really no place to put the Lectrascan unit where it is not above the toilet. The other type one units are the same location problem. I googled this and read the owners manual but no elaborations. I did find a list of 15 things Peggy offered as advice to a birthdayboy on cruisers forum....

I will likely upgrade to a 25 or even a 30 gal tank[like Alan, post 2, http://forums.hunter.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?p=643129&highlight=alan holding tank ]

ps Alan, where did your batteries go ?

After more searching I found only this, including google searching.

''John...how far apart are the heads on your boat? Specs for the LectraSan, ElectroScan and PuraSan all require that the treatment tank be within 6' of the toilet...'cuz that's as far as most toilets can move bowl contents in the amount of time anyone will spend flushing one...and bowl contents have to get TO the device to be treated. So connecting two toilets to the same device should only be done if it can be located within 6' of both of 'em.''

The Raritan owners manual pdf on the website is losing them customers.they offer no explanation or alternative to 6 ft away max or uphill.Even a modest toilet will pump 4 ft uphill and 6ft, so if that is the only criteria, for type 1 unit placement, toilet pushing power, then I can mount a Purasan unit in the aft swim locker, where the existing thru hull is, and use a f.w. Raritan Marine Elegance head or [stronger] to push the waste 10 ft back in a one inch Trid 102 line.

Elegance Owners Manual
1. Each 90 degree Elbow is equal to 4 feet of hose
2. Each insert coupling is equal to 2 feet of hose
3. Each Y-valve is equal to 10 feet of hose
Marine Elegance discharge Maximum recommended 1” PVC hose length 170'

I will ask the boat show people tomorrow in Vancouver, that is all I could find right now.

Maybe I can help...

The ElectroScan or Purasan CAN be above the toilet...in fact, it often is on a sailboat due to heeling whether it's below the toilet when the boat is at rest or not...and most sailboats don't have a deep enough bilge to put it below the toilet anyway.

The solution: a vented loop in the line between the toilet and the treatment unit that's high enough to prevent material in the treatment unit from running back to the bowl.
You'll also need one in the line from the treatment unit to the thru-hull.

Although the "6 foot rule" does still apply to manual marine toilets and most electric macerating toilets (SeaEra, Jabsco 370xxx series and similar) the newer high end all china thrones have pumps that can indeed move bowl contents further than 6'. But even if your toilet is one of the basic models, there are work-arounds if you have no choice but to install the treatment unit further than 6' from the toilet..the siimplest: a loop in the head discharge line immediately after the the toilet that's at least 6" higher than the treatment device....you only have to get the waste over the top of the loop, gravity will get it the rest of the way.

And btw...all the fittings on the treatment units are 1.5" so go with 1.5" hoses, not 1". 1.5" has always been the standard size that every mfr except Jabsco has used for decades...they're the only ones who use 1"...and even they finally had to start offering a choice of 1" or 1.5".

I did find a list of 15 things Peggy offered as advice to a birthdayboy on cruisers forum....

I'd love to see that list 'cuz I don't recall ever posting anything like that...however anything is possible. Would you mind emailing a link? It's easy...just click on my name at the left of this post and choose "email" (NOT private message, please!). And if you have more questions about installing a L/S feel free to include 'em in your email.

I sent the list, you will have to ask her for it...

The Vancouver Boat Show had no Raritan units offered for sale, Sealand had the vac system displayed by a vendor, with one lonely model 8100, and Jabsco had deep discounted units everywhere. No toilet yet, unless I buy a Sealand 9100 or 9800.

BC Place has a new retractable roof that is very impressive engineering.
