I just purchased a 2001 Hunter 340 and have a question regarding the drainage system for the galley and head sink. First off, are these drains above the waterline - it appears that both seacocks would be below? Second question - if the seacock is closed, is the water re-routed to the holding tank - if not where?

Thanks in advance, it's my first boat and I'm still getting familiar with the systems. Unfortunately the page in the owner's manual that pertains to this subject is missing!

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

Both sinks drain overboard...

Below waterline. If the seacocks are closed, any water down the sinks just backs up.

That does NOT mean you should leave the seacocks open while underway..that's a good way to turn your sinks into fountains. (And while we're on that subject, it's prob'ly wise to keep the head intake seacock closed while underway, except when the toilet is actually in use.) You might just have to wait till you anchor to wash those dishes.

The drain hose in the sink in the head of the 35.5 is above the water line. There is a simple thru hull below the sink in the back of the cabinet with no seacock. In fact I have found it necessary to plug the drain while sailing on port tack to prevent sea water from entering the sink in larger seas. The shower sump drains to the bilge. The galley sink to a seacock below the cabinet. Not sure of the setup in the 340 but any of these are possible.

Like Peggy said. The galley sinks drain overboard below the waterline though a seacock that is below the lift out panel in the bottom of the cabinet under the sink. The head sink drains overboard below the waterline (unless you're heeling excessively on a starboard tack) through a seacock that's located behind the lower right door of the vanity, right next to the head suction seacock. I've never closed either while underway, and have never had a problem, but your mileage may vary. If the seacocks are closed, any water you run just backs up into the sinks. It doesn't go to a holding tank.
