Hi, I'm a new member who aquired a 1983 Hunter 34 this summer, after putting the mast up and connecting the wiring we noticed there was no cover at the base of the mast in that slot where the wiring connects. It appears to be about 1" by 33" long to cover the exposed wires. I have fished around on the internet trying to find one with no luck. Any one who has a suggestion the help would be welcome

Thanks Gerry

Gerry...

can you post a picture of the "insert" for those of us with H34's to ponder?

Sorry I don't have a pic to post at this time, but I could come up with one in a day or so. 33 inches is just a close guess not exact measurement, but the strip runs from the gooseneck for the boom down to the base of the mast, probably the same part on all of the old 34s unless the tall rig makes a difference (which is what I have).
thanks for your intrest Gerry

Ah, now we understand. I cannot think of an alternative but perhaps Hunter or maybe Rig Rite- presume it is a Kenyon mast?

Wow, so this is what that sticky post was all about - sorry - not enough information!!
I'm not sure about Kenyon making the mast, but all of the other 34s I have been looking at in our Marina appear to be the same, not sure what its made of but it looks like it just snaps in that slot some how???

It is the cable track (or conduit) cover. I presume you see the exposed wires laying in there. The mast extrusion (if it is a Kenyon) allows for it to slide up from the bottom. Unfortunately that means pulling the mast. It serves no structual purpose, so I would look for something the same width that can snap into the grooves on either side of the channel. How about a length of aluminum window mini blind material? Home Depot probably has some in the junk pile when they pull the extra slats out for people with smaller than stock window openings. You can probably talk them into a few hundred spares.

Thanks Allen, that sounds like a great possibility, I've been scratching my head trying to think of something that might work in there and that never occured to me. I must have just had a blind spot.

Thank you all for the help, I will get it worked out this weekend and post a proper fix next week in case anyone else needs it.
