Might be my older bones, but am finding my berth's less comfortable than I'd like. The cushions are in very good condition so that's not the problem. I'm just too used to my mattress at home for a goodnight's sleep. My question is: Has anyone ever condsidered "Better" mattresses? Coil springs, futon type, extra foam, custom made, or does Hunter offer any options, etc., etc., I'm sure most alternatives are expensive but was just wondering if I had any alternatives. After a weekend on the boat, I'm pretty tired. Your experiences would be welcome. Thanks. George

try this

Same problem. Purchased 4" high density memory foam in King size. Placed V berth cusions on top and traced with black marker. Cut to fit. Foam folds so you do not need to cut center seam. Placed this directly on top of cushions and fitted mattress pad with wide side seam over the entire unit. Difference is night and day. The high density memory foam is the trick. You can find many sellers on e-bay and I have seen some thinner memory foam in Wall Mart. Good luck

ditto

Did the same thing as Ian earlier this year on my Legend 35.5, but used a thinner memory foam that I purchased at Target. The best sleep since I purchased the boat 7 years ago. Wake up with no aches, no pains, and well rested.

Cushion Foam

Having spend a number of weekends and all of last week on our H34, sleeping in various berths, I've come to the conclusion that the dinette cushion foam is of a lesser density than that of the sette or v-berth. We have put a foam topper (not the memory kind) on top of the cushions but still found ourselves "grounding out". I'm going to try that memory foam first, but am now planning to redo the dinette cushions with high density foam over the next winter. Both the v-berth and aft cabin cushion foam appears to have had a thicker, higher density layer of foam bonded to what looks like the original 3" foam.

US Yacht Cushions

I had new cushions for my H34 made last year by US Yacht Cushions--leather in the salon and fabric in the berths. Berths have 2" of memory foam over foam rubber -- very comfortable. Bob Winkler ((727) 322-5352) at US Yacht was OEM for the original H34's and still has the patterns. Mine fit beautifully, and his prices were very reasonable.

Memory foam the answer

Bought 4" King sized memory foam from overstock.com and place over existing foam after covering with quilted topper. Works great!

Memory Foam - Yeah !

We had the same problem on our 37.5, and priced a new mattress at the boat show. Way too much money. We sleep on a memory foam bed at home, so when we saw the memory form topper at Costco, we bought 2. Put it on the main berth, and slept like a log. They didn't even need any cutting to fit, but one corner sort of stick up a bit, but no biggie. Love it.

sleeping better

We replaced the foam in the berth cushions with ulta foam medium. We put a 2 inch Tempsoma mattress pad on top and we also sleep on an LL Bean featherbed on top of the mattress pad. It works for us on our 37.5
