The shower srain on the H-33 doesn't actually get rid of all of the water. The lead in to the sump is about 1/4 higher than the lowest point iin the pan. Anybody thought od drilling a small hole in the lowest point to shed the remaining water ? Why is this a bad idea ?

Ridiculous, isn't it?

I have the same problem on my 336. Is the drain just a hole in the floor, or is it plumbed into the sump with a hose?

Not a great idea

I also thought about that as well. My logic is this- I drill the hole and the sump empties to the bilge. The bilge then collects all the soap, scented shampoos, hair etc. Not that the bilge could'nt use a better scent but I think the hair will eventually clog the bilge pump. You still have the same problem, the bilge pump does not fully empty the bilge. So given that I have a bit of water in the sump or in the bilge. I'll minimize the risk of a clogged bilge pump and live with a bit of dirty water in the sump. Dave katie J. 1982 h33

Sump cleaning made easy

At least once a week, when it can stand in the sump at least overnight, put a healthy squirt of Raritan C.P. Cleans Potties down the drain. That's ALL you ever need to do. Although it's only marketed as a toilet bowl cleaner, it's a bio-enzymatic cleaner that not only destroys odors on contact, but the enzymes "eat" soap scum, hair, body oils etc. Best sump and drain cleaner on the planet, IMO.

Not everyone will agree

But I installed a check valve on the ouput line of the sump pump for the shower drain. As other H33 owners know, the collection basin and sump are located in a difficult area to get to. You have to open the engine compartments and remove the batteries to access the area. Because the drain hose is routed back around the engine, then up to a thru-hull on the starboard side of the hull above the waterline, any water left in the hose will drain back into the collection basin when the pump is turned off. I suppose one could run clean water through after showering, but you would still end up with standing water. I don't think drilling a hole is the answer either. That is why I bought a check valve at West Marine and installed it. You have to remember to either drain the hose or use antifreeze when the boat is put up for the winter, or the water in the hose will freeze and crack it (unless you are lucky enough to live in Florida). Drain goes to a sump

The shower drain goes to a sump located under the batteries on the h-33. The problem is the drain in the shower will not let all the water into the sump area. My drill a hole thought was something on the order of 1/16" diameter to get eth lat drop or two.

build up

Instead of drilling a hole to drain the excess water, an alternative is to build up the depression with silicone level with the existing drain.
