H 33 anchor handling

As configured from the factory, the stem of the H33 doesn't have much room for a anchor roller fitting. Short of building a bowsprit, does anybody have a solution for effectively handling a cqr or bruce anchor with the H 33?

anchor roller works great but....

My '78 33 has an anchor roller which came with the boat as I'm the second owner. A shim has been placed after the aluminmum deck on the deck fitting in order to allow the roller to be flush. The roller extends aft about six inches. The problem is that you must reinforce the deck. The bow chock locations were designed to take the load of an anchor rode. Since the deck on my boat was not reinforced, the core material was turned to mush under the deck in the forward part of the chain loccer along with many stress cracks. I have reglassed the deck and feel confident she will do well now.

Deploying the second anchor

On my boat I carry a 25lb CQR on a bow roller, in my anchor well I also carry the 3 strand nylon rode for my 2nd anchor, the nylon rode for the 2nd anchor is led back to the cockpit, where my 16.5lb bruce is stationed in a 4" dia. length of pvc, affixed to my stern pulpit, the 30' of 3/8" chain is also kept in the same spot, when I anchor I set out about 150' of rode, set the 1st then deploy the bruce from the cockpit, pull in about 50' of the 1st and set the second, developing a equal triangle of 100ft, both anchors have a trip line and an attached small fender, for easy retrieval, My boat is a 27' Cherubini/Hunter.

H33 anchor roller

I use a 33 lb. Bruce on my 1980 H33with the roller specifically designed for this anchor. I mounted the roller on the port side of the headstay by removing the port anchor line chock on the foredeck (my home dock is a starboard tie). The only thing you have to be careful of is that you keep the anchor under control when first deploying it so the shank doesn't hit the underside of the furling drum.Works great, and is definitely much easier than horsing the Danforth out of the locker.

Large hunk of Teak

I've a Hunter 33 1978 and was confused with your problem until I looked at the pictures of a stock 33, it doesn't have a bow sprit. At some point someone added a hunk of teak, cut around the forestay and bolted to the deck. It doesn't go out far but it allows for room for the anchor roller.
