Does anyone have two batteries on their 28.5? Mine has one and all the original literature that came with the boat shows it came with a single battery. My battery is that physically bigger size deep cycle 12v located under the galley cupboard under the sink and theres no room for a second beside it. Mabey two of the smaller case batts? Where have other people located a second battery? Thanks! PS and for the yahoo groups 28.5 guy, It always shows "no such group/ doesnt exhist..." I want to check that out but can get there!

My '87 came with the one under the sink, a 1-2-all-off switch in the entry way to the aft berth on the left near access to engine compartment, and a second battery in the lazarette that you access from the cockpit. I added a 2nd battery there in parallel for "house" and use the one under sink for "start" battery for a total of 3 batteries. Never run out of juice with this setup.

When I had my 28.5 I moved the existing battery to the lazarette and added a 2nd bank. You will need a 1-2-all switch and some longer cables.

Having had boats with batteries all over the place and hard to get to, this is the near perfect set-up. Also, I installed a charger in the locker right next to the galley so the wire runs are short. However you do it, I think it important to have a house battery and a starting battery.

2nd Battery
The 28.5's came with one size 24 deep cycle battery under the galley sink. I added a 'smart switch' under the port side of the companionway step just above the engine compartment enclosure. I increased the size of the battery cables one size and added a 2nd battery in the forward corner of the starboard sail locker. Both batteries are now size 27 deep cycle. Given the fact that 28.5's seem to list to starboard, I wish I had placed the second battery somewhere on the port side. It might be a little more difficult to run both sets of battery cables under the floor. Perhaps the battery switch location near the sink or stove could be a better idea, however, mine is reachable from the cockpit.

I have 2 batteries, one is on the bottom of the galley sink cabnet, the other is tied, to it but is located on a shelf above the sink sea cock, in the cabnet below the stove. The swith connecting both, for (1st, 2nd, both or off) is on the right side of the cabnet were the first battery is located below the sink. its a little tricky getting both in place but it works great, the wires connecting both run between both cabnets at the base. Email me if you like kjjeferg@aol.com PS I alwasy start the engine on "both" but run my instruments on bat 2!
