I have a 2002 H 260 well cared for. The centerboard line still looks to be in good shape Normally it is protected by a boom tarp and stored inside for the winter

Should I be concerned about a replacement, the task seems to be one I would have professionally done? Each year I try and get a potential problem area maintained.

Thanks for any advice

There are not other similar boats on the lake to compare.

This is on my to-do list too on my 2001 240 as the line is starting to look rather tired from its years in the sun. From what I've been able to determine, you need to drop the centerboard out from under the boat on the 240s and 260s (there's an access panel inside the cabin) in order to replace the line meaning the boat needs to be up on lifts. I'm going to have mine done at a shop rather than do it myself just because of the lift issue and I don't trust my own engineering skills!

My line is looking a little gray. I had my bottom painted by a yard this winter and that task was on the list, but got skipped. If your line is still sound, wait until you have the boat in a lift for other reasons. If the line is starting to stretch or fray, you may need to make that the reason for lifting the boat and lowering the centerboard.

If it still works, follow Cephius (dave) advice. For you I would recommend tha a yard to do the work. A couple of things,

1. put tracer line thru the pipe when pulling out the cb line
2. Make sure you put duck tape over the holes so the pins will not come out
when replacing the cb back onto boat
3. Never force the bolt back into the head or you will strip threads. Add a little grease
to the threads which helps.
5. If hard to get out or back in, wiggle the cb (centerboard)

Thanks

Good advice from everybody regarding centerboard lineAll looks well, the line is normally protected. I may have it professionally replaced next season.

I like to do a project each year. This year I have revealed all port vents and put in some Zarcor blinds Enough for one year

Thanks, be well

Centerboard line replacement

Earl
I just replaced my centerboard line this year. It is not terribly difficult once the boat is on the hard. Actually used a truck jack and two assistants to lower the CB. CDC's advice is sound, esp for the bolt; you don't want to strip it or the bracket tread. Replace it with the lowest stretch line you can get. It's pricier but worth it. This job was done as I had to removed the CB to get it refinished and I had to remove and reseal the compression post base plate as it was leaking there. Anyways, good luck
