I'm replacing the red rubber gasket material on the rudder head of my H-26. I've seen several recent posts on this topic but didn't see anything on the type of glue used. Any recommendations? Thanks, BrianW

Glue

I did mine a few years ago and faced the same problem. I ended up using " Marine Goop". Use it just like contact cement. Put it on both surfaces and leave it for about 10 min. Then use some kind of clamp to apply pressure when you put them together. This stuff is pretty handy around a boat. It does a great job of finishing rope ends when you make a cut instead of burning. Make sure it says "Marine". There's other kinds.

Contact Cement

That is what I used. It seemed to be what had been on there before. I can't think of any reason that it wouldn't work. It isn't water soluble and it isn't submerged, anyway.

Where to get rubber

Brian, Did you get the rubber from Hunter? I thought I read a post a few weeks ago about where to order the rubber, but can't seem to find it now.

Thanks for Glue Info--Red Rubber Source

Thanks for the glue info all! I located red rubber sheet locally by looking in the Yellow Pages under "Gasket" classification. The owner just gave me the material without charge since it was such a small amount. Another source was in this message board. I'll try to include the link to the archive. BrianW .......................................... From Casperc: I ordered mine from Richmond Supply Here is what my order looked like; Item Code Description UM Qty Price Extended 85400048 RED RUBBER SHEET 1/8 X 36 FT 2.00 6.20 12.40 Sub Total: 12.40 Tax: 00 Shipping/Handling: 6.73 Order Total: 19.13

I used Contact Cement. I bought it at a West Marine store, but it's regular contact cement, nothing special.

Epoxy

Replaced the gaskets several years ago on my H26. Got the red gaskets from Hunter and used a two part waterproof epoxy to attach to metal. Has worked great without loosening.

Epoxy ?

Epoxy would hold it on, but what happens when you need to replace the rubber again? Contact cement residue is easier to remove.
