I will be replacing my aluminum rudder head on my H-26 after it corroded and broke at the lower pintle. Hunter wanted too much to replace the aluminum plates so I'm having them fabricated for a much lower cost. My question: How should I finish the bare aluminum plates? I was considering using the primer and paint for outboard motors since they are aluminum and exposed to similar conditions. Your ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, BrianW

That Would be the Way I'd Go

Of course there may be no need to paint them at all. Wonder what the fabricator would suggest.

Did you consider stainless?

Maybe a bit stiffer and less corrosion? I used metal primer and spray paint, your idea sounds better. No problems though after two seasons. alan

Stainless Rudder Head

Alan, I'm getting a firm quote also on a stainless rudder head from the fabricator. It will be approximately $100 more and 40 pounds heavier. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Thanks, BrianW
