H 23.5 Topping Lift/Jam Question

On my 23.5, my topping lift line slips out of the line jam at the most inopportune times. Thankfully, it slips so the boom lowers slowly instead of crashing to the sole. Regardless, the Admiral doesn't like it, as I have to leave the helm to correct the problem. Looking at the jam, it appears that the "teeth" are a bit worn and almost smooth, so I don't think it is holding well no matter how much force I place on the jam. How hard is it to replace the jams, or is there a way I can sharpen the teeth on the jam or is that a bad idea. My thought was to run a file over the jam a few times to enhance the teeth and hopefully start grabbing the topping lift line a bit better. Thanks! Jams

Steve, I have found the jams on my 87 h23 totally useless. If you sharpen the teeth you will chafe your lines, considerably shortening their lifespan. You might install cleats on the boom. I lead my line aft to the cockpit, so I no longer depend on the jams. Fair Winds Dave
