new h-22 owner, question to lower the mast does it lower stern to bow or bow to stern?

either

Bob I think it could go either way. I keep my hunter 22 on the water, so I have only lowered it twice in the year I've owned it and lowered it to the rear each time. I come from a catamaran sailing background and am used to lowering a mast front to rear by muscle alone. I lowered my hunter mast the same way and found I really needed a solid place to step right were the companion way hatch is. It was really painful bringing it down. The next time I do it I will either lower it back to front or set up a gin pole with mechanical advantage to lower it front to rear. Shawn

Agree w/ Shawn

I stepped the mast to the stern and used 3-4 people to do it. Connected the forestay to my anchor rode, ran it through the bow anchor cleat, and let her down slowly with two people to the rear with supports to let her down slow. Once you get her halfway down you loose leverage on the bowline and she becomes very heavy very fast - be careful!
