We have enough anchor I hope....we have a friend that owns a motor boat that offered to tow us out since our engine still won't start..we"ll see if he pulls through for us. Going down tomorrow to take off whatever I can off of her and plug her up. We are going to get her out in the Back Bay on Sunday before Keesler tries to tow her out. They will charge us, drop her off wherever and not set the anchor so we are trying to avoid that.

I am worried Phil about the Back Bay, my whole heart and soul is in that boat..the kids and I had a great time on her this year and it would break my heart if she sank. I don't care about the pilfereing but just don't sink on me.

I am trying to think of a good spot to anchor her in.

Any advice on how to prepare her better please list!

Back Bay

Straight across from the marina at Keesler is excellent. Rent one of the fishing boats from Keesler to check the depths and maybe use it to get yours out to anchor. The skiffs may not have enough power to really set the anchor but the pontoon boat should. During Georges alot of folks anhored out to the left and right of the marina when the docks washed away they took all of the boats out at anchor with them.

Check out Bernards Bayou. Looks to be 8 or so miles from your marina, runs off of Big Lake. Water is kind of skinny going in, but looks pretty protected. Also, up the Biloxi river at the junction of the river that I won't even attempt to spell looks interesting. I don't have a chart that shows water depth up in there though, but right where the two rivers come together is an island that might be pretty good to hide behind.

Nice N Easy, that is a really great thing you are doing. I wish I had been philanthropic enough to think of offering to help those in need. If I was off work this weekend I would have been more than happy to lend a hand where needed. Next time around I'll have to remember this. Being an airline pilot I do get certain travel perks so if someone is in need of a hand, given enough notice I could probably work something out.

Bernards Bayou, Tchoutacabouffa and Biloxi River

They will be full of shrimp boats and you do not want to be anywhere near them. A freind of mine lost his boat in Katrina when he got between one and another one that dragged anchor. Where the rivers meet will not work either as the south side is too shallow and your boat will not carrry enough rode to anchor on the north side the rivers scour out a whole more than 100' deep there.

Straight across the bay from the Keesler Marinais the place to go. When you get the engine running go check out Fort Bayou that is the second best alternative I can think of.

BTW Tchoutacabouffa is the Biloxi Indian's word for "broken pot".

The National Hurricane Center web site

seems to indicate that you have 3-4 days before the hammer drops. Remember that a storm surge will change your anchoring scope. If you can get around 2 bends in a river the wave action will be smaller. Good luck.
