Anybody been to Sandy cay (near west end) Bahamas, or Gun cay in the bahamas? Any words of wisdom on where to anchor for a few days near either cay? I draft 5.6 in my Hunter Passage 450. How about approaching Sandy Cay?

I have been to Gun Cay a few times. Quiet anchorage. There are two spots most anchor out. One is Honeymoon bayto the old light house and the other is by the airport on North Cat Cay. Word of caution. don't anchor on the centerline of the airport. There is a small current that runs between Gun and North Cat Cay. Explorer charts are a must. The Raymarine charts are very inaccurate in the Bahamas. Hug the east coast shoreline of both ilslands to keep out the sand bars. There is a big sand bar abeam the airport.
The bottom is sand with grass. Good holding with my Ronca anchor. Not much fish life here. Most of it is barren. There is wreck Sapona north by Trianlge rocks. Go by dinghy.
Cat Cay Club Resort is a private resort but one can get fuel and water there. Nice people. I have seen some boats anchor out by Dollar harbour at the south end of South Cat Cay. Can only be approached from the west (Gulf Stream side).
