Hello all,
My buddy is a big fisherman and would like to anchor out by Chandelier Islands for two days. Has anyone anchored here overnight? Can you get on the lee of one these islands for anchor pretty well? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks, Russ

Hey, Russ.. I have heard about fishing boats that go out there from Biloxi and overnight. They stay out there around the New Harbor Islands. I hear that it is REALLY kinda tricky to get around back there because nothing is marked anymore after Katrina. If your friend doesn't draw more than a couple of feet, it probably is not a problem and he'll be able to find some quiet/protected anchorage. Go to this site and zoom in on the Chandeleurs. In the top right side, labeled NOAA, grab that little slider and slide it left so you can see how little island is actually left there. I would not want to be there if a blow developed in a boat like mine taht draws over 5 feet. .. BUT.. The fishing is great .. I have read that there lies the biggest concentration of all kinds of sharks in the Gulf and the beachcombing is excellent. http://demo.geogarage.com/noaa/

Russ,
My next door neighbor fishes out there lot, but he does not overnight. Fishes out of a 21' center console. Lots of very skinny water in there, and very little if any protection from winds. A boat big enough to overnight on would more than likely be pushing it. The charts are going to be basically useless for checking water depth, as all is changed since Katrina. If he decides to go, tell him to go sloooooow and be careful.
