Does anyone have any experience with a Guest Model 2540A 40 amp charger. Or does anyone have any advice about how to maintain my house batteries, 3 x 12 volt deep cycle in parallel ...(the 4th being the starting battery). Ready to listen and learn

Price point Frank?

Are you trying to save a buck? Or maybe you already have the Guest charger. And/or a separate inverter. If so then what I would recommend might be too costly. I have an inverter/charger wired to the house bank(3 gels). It is a 2000 watt inverter and a 100 amp charger. Easily installed and trouble free for eight years so far. Then I have a battery combiner wired between a post of the house bank and the starter battery. As soon as the house bank reaches a charge the combiner solenoid opens a circuit to allow the charging of the starter battery. I see in the new WM catalog that they now call it an ACR(Automatic Charging Relay) and it works a little differently. It is $80. and has the same basic function. I also have a Link 2000 to watch over this stuff. Not necessary but does allow you to monitor battery usage for all your needs and toys. And I never use the starter battery. My battery switch is always on #2. A couple of years ago I changed out my old 35 amp alternator for the newer 55 amp Hitachi. You probably already have that one. If not they can usually be found on the used market.

What is the output per leg of a Guest 2540A

I have the opportunity to buy a used Guest 2540A to keep up my house battery's, I added some battery's. I am trying to determine since it is a 40 amp charger and it has three charging legs, How much many amps are output on each leg? The person offering it has no earthly idea. Anybody know about this model charger? Frank Bean

Frank I have 20 amp charger

and 4 house batteries sitting over the keel. 20 amps is fine for my typical use of day sailing w/shore power on return. No inverter aboard.

Call a specialist?

The 2540A should have labels on its pigtails. I cannot find a source of info for that model so would call someone. Maybe Defender or West Marine, someone who used to sell that model. It would be unusual if all three legs were 40 amps. That would require what amounts to three separate chargers in one box. If you look at the current WM catalog you will see a two output 30 amp charger listed as "30(15/15)". In other words 15 amps per leg. The Guest 45 amp model is listed "45A(15/15/15)". There are also models where one leg is higher than the others: "30A(20/5/5)" for example. It really should be marked on the box.

Battery charger

When we bought our 31' Hunter, there was an old charger on board. I was given a Guest 2610 and had no idea how to install it. I contacted Guest online and obtained an operators manual. Shows how to install and what all the lights mean.
