guess the weight of a MKll fin keel

Recently My boat has been placed in the Ultra Light (ULDB) division racing with the Singlehanded Sailing Society.. Using the formula, my boat falls below the 150 computed cutoff number by a mear 130 lbs .I dont mind the re-classification but it moves my starting time to the last group starting, which I feel is a disadvantage in the area we race, because of the drastic tide changes..... I feel the weight of the MKll is off the origional weight placed on it by the factory of 2250 so I took it to the scales... boat and trailer weighed in at 4140, I be putting the boat in the water for a race next weekend so it will give me a chance to weigh the trailer by itself.... 4140 sounds high

Randy,I recently purchased a Catalina 22 MK11 wing keel. From the brochure the wing keel version weights 2450# and the trailer, I believe, is about 930#. Total weight should be about 3500# including a couple of extras e.g. motor and battery.Please post your findings when you get the trailer wt. I'm interested.Ted

I'm with Ted. 4140 sounds very high. My guess is closer to the 3400 -3500 range (Motor and trailer included.) Please keep us updated on what you find. I may need a bigger vehicle for towing than I currently have.

weight is certified

I agree the weight sounds high but the trailer is a tandum axel, and the boat is equepted with the outboard, a 6hp whitehead, one galon of gas, all sails, safety gear,  About the only thing I left out from my normal race gear is the ice chest full of beer....... By the way, the boat will go in the water on friday for a race so I'll be posting the weight friday afternoon..

Weight

My old 84 fin keel weighed 2800 lbs. And the single axle E-Z Loader trailer weighed 1100 lbs with 11' tongue extension.

weight results

Put the boat in the water today and took the trailer to the scales....trailer weighed in at 1360 so that leaves the boat weight at (2780 lbs)
