Guardian vs. Fortress

Brian Sheehan, Fortress Anchors

Fortress and Guardian anchors are made from the exact same aluminum magnesium alloy, which is well know for its strength, weight, and corrosion resistance. Fortress anchors have more precision-machining steps than Guardian, so you will get a better performing anchor with the Fortress. The Fortress also has a longer warranty (Lifetime Parts Replacement vs. 1 Year), the adjustable fluke angle for soft mud, and the extra corrosion protection/nicer appearance from the anodizing. Guardian costs less, of course. The Guardian anchor is intended for utility applications, while Fortress is intended for mission critical applications. A guideline: If the boat is to be unattended, use a Fortress. If anchoring over night, use a Fortress. If the anchorage is not protected against bad weather, use a Fortress. If you are carrying a spare anchor as a backup or storm anchor, use a Fortress.

I would like to carry a Guardian anchor as a spare or storm anchor. Since it will be below deck, I don’t need the anodized protection. However, is it of the same strength ratings as the Fortress? Any other consideration for choosing a Guardian?
