What ground tackle are you using? I know anchor type depends on cruising grounds, but would like to get an idea of what is working for the group.
Anchor type and weight?
Chain size and length?
Length of rode?
Rode and chain combo?
Thanks,
Adam
25lb CQR35 metres 6mm chain. It's worked well for me for 25 years cruising the West of Scotland.I've a similar sized CQR style anchor with a few metres of chain and lots of rope in a locker as an occasional kedge and backup.Alisdair
Brad, thanks for referencing that tarka article. I have a bruce that needs proper mounting.gh"Brad Gill brad_45@... [AlbinVega]" AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com wrote:
Hi Adam,I use a 22# Bruce anchor, 30' 5/16 chain and 200' rode that is oversized at 5/8" (I got a great deal on it). The Bruce seems to set well in mud . I have had problems setting it in eel grass. I have carried in the past a 27# CQR style anchor but I don't like it (personal choice). If there is a blow and I'm fidgety I will string a kellet that I rig with a mushroom anchor. I use a Danforth as my other anchor until I make the jump for the nice and pointy Rocna, but they are expensive. I also carry 25' 5/16" chain and 140' 1/2" rode that I can rig up for a second anchor. I carry the Bruce on the bow pulpit in the manor described in the VODCA Newsletter Jun/Jul 1990 "Preparing your Vega For Extended Offshore Cruising" by Nick and Jenny Coghlan "Tarka The Otter". Find that article it will be worth your while. I hope this helps.Cheers!BradV2548
