I want to add a GFI protection circuit on my AC outlets. I cannot find an outlet that fits in the shallow electrical boxes on my 34. I have also tried to find aGFI circuit breaker to fit in the switch panel--no luck. Any suggestions?

None, Al. Just tried to do the same thing with the same complications. When you do so, advise. RD

The answer is simple...

I simply replaced the standard circuit breaker in my control box below my electrical meter with an 30 amp GFI breaker switch. It works great! I also had the electric company install a surge suppressor before the meter. Cost is an additional $1.50/month. Cheap insurance! I've replaced four Statpower battery chargers due to lightning strikes and electrical surges. I want/need all the help I can get. Good luck and Happy Surge Suppressant New Year!

Replaced boxes.

Happy New Year Al(in New Zealand at least), If you know how the boat is wired then you should only need to replace two boxes. On my H37C there are two panel switches, one each for A/C to starboard and port. If you install a deep box with a GFIC outlet in the first drop then that entire side is protected. I had no trouble removing the shallow boxes and replacing them.

Half-Popped GFI

My wife and I had a fun time at the boat last week trying to figure out why the port side of the boat had no juice. I knew I had a problem building as I've had the microwave operate in a weird and intermittent fashion for several months now. I started tearing out all of the outlets starting aft, thinking that I had a bad connection, but everything looked fine. I finally worked my way up to the forward head and found that I had a "half-popped" ground fault interupter that had finally fully popped! All I had to do was put it in test mode and then punch it again! Dumb I know, but maybe some of you won't have to follow ALL of your wiring like I did when you have a sudden failure. Best wishes for a Happy New Year! from cap'n Ron s/y Best Revenge
