Peggy, I have a Groco HE head that is in good physical shape except that it needs some attention/maintenance. According to your book, if the kit X 2 =/exceeds the price of a new unit, REPLACE! The kit to upgrade the HE to the current HF is $80 and new is $200,therefore,I should upgrade. However, if you think that the PHII is that much better of a unit, Should I change now? Is the PHII a "bolt-in" replacement or will I have to make modifications? Thank you Forrest

HE is obsolete...current version is HF
You can get a kit to convert it to an HF, but you'd also need a rebuild kit...which would cost you as much as new HF. I suggest you bite the bullet and spend $50-60 more for a Raritan PH II. Others here who've done so will confirm my recommendation.

I have a Groco HF and like it because it is so easy to work on. WM sells individual parts instead of a complete rebuild kit that you probably don't need. The most common problem on the HE and HF is called a "gasket and spring" and sells for $16.49. Mfg part #HF-1 and WM part #141221 . See links for IPB and price list. It seems that all makers of heads use a different bolt pattern, so you would have to drill new holes for mounting.

Your sources would be fine...IF...
His toilet were an HF. But it's not...it's an HE, which has been obsolete for more than 10 years. HF parts won't fit it. Might help if y'all actually read the original post AND the previous replies before offering advice.

Thanks to all for response, I will replace with a PHII. I remember seeing a post on a valve setup for using the freshwater drain from the sink to flush, but haven't been successful in searching. Also, can I use penetrating oil to loosen a stuck thru hull valve?

Connecting to sink drain...
It's simple: Just tee the head intake line into the sink drain line. Use a y-valve (3/4" garden hose y-valve from a hardware store works just fine)...keep the side from the sink closed except when the sink is use.
